Kati Basti
“Kati” refers to the lower back region, while “Basti” means holding or retaining , thus “kati Vasti” specifically targets the lower back area by retaining warm medicated oil over it.
Kati Vasti is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves retaining warm medicated oil over the lower back area.
Mode of action :
Due to the heat and pressure of the oil it penetrates deep into the tissues lubricating the joints, nourishing the muscles, tendons and promoting relaxation. This deep tissue therapy uses heat to heal and oils to repair the tissue. Heat increases the blood flow, the increase in blood flow can reduce swelling , assist with pain relief and soften ligaments, tendons and muscles.
Procedure :
For this purpose, an artificial pit is made with the use of a dough to which heated oil is poured from a short height. The oil is replaced as required to maintain optimum temperature throughout the procedure. It is retained for about 45 minutes or longer depending on the condition of the patient and disease. After the procedure, excess oil is removed with the help of cotton and the remaining oil is massaged into the body part. This process is repeated on subsequent days until the patient is cured of the disease.
