What is Pizhichil?
Pizhichil, also known as Thaila Dhara, is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy combining massage (Abhyanga) and warm oil pouring (Dhara).
It involves a continuous stream of warm, medicated oil poured over the body while simultaneously massaging, providing deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
It’s considered a royal treatment, offering both therapeutic and rejuvenative effects, primarily targeting Vata disorders.
Indications :-
Chronic pain, arthritis, and joint disorders.
Neurological issues like paralysis, sciatica, and spondylitis.
Stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
Muscle stiffness, inflammation, and conditions involving Vata imbalances.
Weakness, fatigue, and need for overall rejuvenation.
Procedure :-
- Preparation: The patient lies on a specialized wooden table (Droni). Warm, medicated oil is prepared.
- Oil Pouring and Massage: The warm oil is poured in a rhythmic stream over the body while two therapists gently massage the patient with synchronized strokes.
- Duration: The therapy usually lasts for 45-60 minutes, depending on the individual’s condition and tolerance.
Post procedure care :-
- Rest and Relax: Take rest for a few hours to allow the body to absorb the benefits of the treatment.
- Keep Warm: Avoid cold exposure, and keep the body warm to maintain the effects of the therapy.
- Light Diet: Consume light, warm foods to aid digestion and enhance the healing process.
