What is Abhyanga ?
Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic full-body oil massage that involves the application of warm herbal oils tailored to your body type (Dosha). The term ‘Abhyanga’ is derived from Sanskrit, where ‘Abhi’ means “towards” and ‘Anga’ means “limb” or “body part.” This practice is a part of Dinacharya (daily self-care routine) in Ayurveda, aimed at enhancing overall well-being by nourishing the body, balancing the Doshas, and promoting longevity.
Indications :-
- Vata Disorders
- Muscle and joint pain
- Stress, anxiety and insomnia
- Chronic fatigue and weakness
- Skin conditions
- post partum and geriatic care
- Sports recovery
Abhyanga is often described as an act of self-love, where the therapeutic touch of warm oil provides profound relaxation and rejuvenation, supporting both physical and mental health.”
Procedure :-
- The client is first assessed by our Ayurvedic expert to determine their Dosha and choose the appropriate oil.
- The oil is warmed to a comfortable temperature for deeper penetration.
- The massage begins with long, gentle strokes over the entire body, followed by specific circular motions over the joints and pressure points (Marma points).
- Special attention is given to areas of tension, stiffness, and pain.
- The client is left to rest for a few minutes, allowing the oil to penetrate deeply into the skin and tissues, nourishing and rejuvenating the body.
- This is often followed by a steam bath (Swedana) to open the pores and further aid in detoxification.
Post Procedure care :-
- The treatment concludes with a gentle cleansing bath to remove excess oil, leaving the skin soft and refreshed.
- Keep yourself warm and avoid direct exposure to cold air or wind immediately after the treatment, as the body tends to be more sensitive.
- Consume a light, warm, and easily digestible meal. Khichdi or soup is ideal, as it supports the digestive process and helps balance the Doshas.
