“What is Akshi Tarpan?
Akshi Tarpan is an Ayurvedic eye therapy that involves placing medicated ghee or oil around the eyes to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate the eye tissues.
The therapy aims to improve vision, reduce eye strain, and provide relief from various eye conditions by revitalizing the eye muscles, nerves, and surrounding tissues.
This treatment is particularly beneficial for Vata and Pitta imbalances affecting the eyes.
Indications :-
- Dry eyes, eye strain, and tired eyes.
- Refractive errors like myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism.
- Conjunctivitis, inflammation, and irritation.
- Cataracts and glaucoma in the early stages.
- Dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.
- Eye fatigue from prolonged screen time or stress.
Procedure :-
Preparation: A ring of dough is created around the eyes, and a medicated ghee or oil is heated to a comfortable temperature.
Application: The warm medicated ghee or oil is poured into the ring, forming a pool around the eyes, allowing it to soak in and nourish the area.
Duration: The ghee or oil is left in place for 10-20 minutes, depending on the individual’s condition and tolerance.
Massage: After the application, gentle massage of the area may be performed to enhance absorption and relaxation.
Post-Procedure Care :-
Rest for the Eyes: Avoid exposing the eyes to bright lights, screens, or strain immediately after the procedure.
Gentle Cleansing: Wash the eyes gently with warm water after removing the medicated oil or ghee.
Keep Eyes Moisturized: Use natural eye drops or a mild moisturizer to keep the eyes hydrated after the treatment.”
