Pichu
Pichu is a form of external oleation (Snehana) therapy in Ayurveda where a thick cotton pad or cloth soaked in medicated warm oil is applied and kept on the affected part of the body to alleviate pain, inflammation, and other symptoms associated with Vata disorders.
Mode of Action:
The warm medicated oil calms aggravated Vata dosha, which is primarily responsible for pain, stiffness, and dryness in the body,lubricating the joints and tissues, relieving dryness and stiffness.
The herbs infused in the oil help reduce inflammation, providing relief from pain and swelling, nourishes the tissues (Dhatus), promoting regeneration and healing.
The warmth from the oil helps in relaxing stiff muscles and improves blood circulation in the affected area
Procedure:
- Selection of Medicated Oil: The choice of oil depends on the condition.
- Preparation of Pichu: A cotton pad or cloth is soaked in warm medicated oil.
- Application: The oil-soaked Pichu is placed over the affected area.
- Maintenance of Warmth: The Pichu is kept warm throughout the procedure by regularly reheating the oil and reapplying it to the pad.
- The Pichu is kept on the area for 20–30 minutes, or longer, depending on the patient’s condition.
