Raktamokshana
Raktamokshana is one among the Pancha-shodhana therapies. It is a popular para-surgical procedure performed in the management of diseases caused due to vitiated Rakta (blood).
What makes Raktamoksha unique?
शीत उष्ण स्निग्ध रूक्षाधै: उपक्रान्तश्च ये गदाः ।
सम्यक् साध्या न स्थिध्यन्ति रक्तजास्तान् । विभावयेत् ॥

Raktamoksha is the ultimate resort to those diseases that do not get subsided by Snigdha/ Ruksha/ Sheeta or Ushna therapies.
Mode of Action
Rakta, being the connective tissue carrying nutrients and inflammatory markers to every part of the body, becomes the
carrier of Vikruta dosa or toxins. Hence when blood-letting is carried out, these toxins which are responsible for the manifestation of diseases are also drained out of the body, aiding in healing.
Indications :
Skin diseases, eczema, bleeding disorders, tumors, splenomegaly, melasma, jaundice, leucoderma, numbness, hair-fall etc.
The process :
Depends on the method of Raktamokshana that is being adopted.
Based on the condition it may be:-

Poorvakarma :
- Massaging and steam prior to bloodletting
- Maintaining aseptic condition
Pradhankarma :
- Careful and controlled removal of blood to neutralise the toxins

- Followed by warm unctous food
