Virechana
Virechana karma is the procedure by which Doshas are eliminated through the Adhobhaga or anal route.

It is a widely practiced Shodhana therapy in routine clinical practices owing to its less tedious nature and hence lesser possibility of complications.
Mode of action
In this procedure the orally administered drug acts on internally situated doshas, specifically Pitta dosha and expel them along with stagnant subtle body wastes through the anal route
it facilitates the excretion of morbid matters within the gut which are not generally supposed to be excreted out through the mucosa of the gut. This mass movement forces repeated acts of defecation and their by aiding in purification therapy.
Indications
It is indicated in diseases like skin disorders, diabetes, ascites, tumor, worm infestation, headache, anemia, asthma, cough, cataract, vomiting, swelling and many more.

Poorva karma
- Sambhara sangraha- Collection of medicines and instruments.
- Atura pareeksha- Patient examination
- Atura siddhanta- prior to virechana Karma vamana is performed otherwise the Kapha dosha may cause avarana over grahani resulting in Mandagni and patients may get dysentery.
- Matra vinischaya- Determination of dose.
Pradhana karma:
